Ichthys CPF Sails away from South Korea to the Ichthys Field offshore Western Australia
Last week, the Ichthys Project achieved a significant milestone with the Ichthys Explorer, the Central Processing Facility (CPF), sailing away from the ship yards in Geoje, South Korea to the Ichthys Field off the north west coast of Australia, following the completion of the shipyard commissioning and preparation work.
The CPF, the world’s biggest semi-submersible platform (picture below),can be seen being towed south of the harbour by tug boats and will take approximately one and half months to reach its destination. Natural gas and condensate from the Ichthys Field's subsea production wells will undergo preliminary processing on the Ichthys Explorer, over 40 years of continuous operation.
